Egg Retrieval

This is the procedure when the eggs are retrieved from your ovaries.  We will start an IV, and you will receive light anesthesia to put you to sleep.  During this time you are not aware of the procedure or any discomfort.  The doctor will use an ultrasound machine to carefully guide a special needle through the vagina and into your ovaries.   The procedure is short, averaging about 20 minutes.  You will then spend about 1 hour in recovery, where a nurse will monitor you as you wake up.   Most patients report that discomfort following the procedure is similar to that experienced during menstruation. 

Because of the effects of anesthesia, you MUST have a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure.
