Assessment and Support:
|
RMIA requires psychological assessment and provides treatment services for all of our patients. The philosophy underlying these services is to support individuals and couples through the infertility treatment process. Assessment is designed to identify areas of need for our patients and remove issues that are known to hamper success. Treatment, when needed, is designed to address identified issues and further facilitate success in the program. Assessment and treatment services focus on the following areas: stress levels, presence of psychological difficulties, including history that may interfere with treatment, presence of substance use or abuse, including tobacco use, marital discord, social support, spirituality and ethical concerns. RMIA patients and their spouses or significant others will be asked to spend approximately 30 minutes with our psychologist to review these areas. Each may be asked to complete a Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), a brief symptom questionnaire designed to screen for high levels of distress. Results will be provided during your interview. Should any areas of need be identified, you may be asked to return to see our psychologist. Treatment is typically brief and very goal-oriented, allowing the fertility treatment process to proceed in a timely fashion.
