Financial Matters
Fertility Cost Warranty Program:
Overview
The staff at RMIA draws on a long commitment
to excellence in the field of reproductive endocrinology and,
more specifically, infertility. Over the last twenty years, advances
and innovations in the treatment of infertility have been made,
resulting in the increased availability of in vitro fertilization
(IVF). Unfortunately, the refusal of insurance companies to cover
this treatment option has prevented infertile couples from receiving
its benefits.
In an attempt to resolve this paradox, the
staff at RMIA pioneered and championed the concept of a financial
risk-sharing between patient and fertility center. In 1995, the
Fertility Cost Warranty Program (FCWP) was introduced in an effort
to make IVF more affordable to our patients. We are pleased to
announce that the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)
has endorsed this risk-sharing warranty program, and it is now
accepted as a legitimate treatment alternative provided that
patients receive full disclosure and that treatment guidelines
are observed.
The FCWP offers couples the chance to pursue
up to three IVF cycles at a fixed cost. While this program does
not guarantee a successful outcome (a live birth), the FCWP does
guarantee a refundable portion of the program fee to those for
whom IVF was not successful. This way, financial resources would
still be available to those patients who wish to adopt.
