Dr. Stassart attended undergraduate and medical school at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, where he is from. He moved to the United States in 1978, and completed his residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, New York. He moved to Minnesota in 1989 and completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Stassart is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOG) and a member of American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Past clinical appointments include:
- Clinical Instructor at Columbia University, New York
- Clinical Assistant Professor and Interim Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Minnesota
- Director of the IVF Program of Reproductive Health Associates (RHA; 1994-1998)
- Founder and current Director of the IVF Program of Reproductive Medicine & Infertility Associates (RMIA)

When Dr. Stassart is not working, he enjoys skiing, swimming, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren.
